Michael G. Garbo Legacy of Service Scholarship
“Just Do The Right Thing.” — Michael G. Garbo
The Michael G. Garbo Legacy of Service Scholarship was created to honor the life, service, and sacrifice of DEA Group Supervisor Michael G. Garbo, who was killed in the line of duty on October 4, 2021. Michael devoted his life to protecting others with integrity and courage, guided by the principle to "Just Do The Right Thing." This scholarship ensures his legacy continues through the education and service of those he inspires.
A Legacy of Family, Service, and Education
Education has always been a cornerstone of our family. When Michael was killed during our daughter’s sophomore year at the University of Arizona, she faced unimaginable loss. Through resilience and determination, she persevered to earn both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Her journey reflects the heart of this scholarship: perseverance through adversity and the belief that education empowers future generations.
Scholarship Mission
This scholarship supports high school seniors who are children or legal dependents of current, retired, or fallen DEA agents or employees who served within the Phoenix Field Division. It honors Michael’s lifelong commitment to justice, honor, accountability, and service to others. By supporting students who embody these values, we aim to invest in future leaders who will continue to do the right thing in their careers and communities.
Continuing Michael’s Legacy
This scholarship is a promise to honor sacrifice, support families who serve, and uplift students striving to build purposeful futures. Through this initiative, Michael’s legacy lives on in every student supported and every act of service inspired.
